It’s up to us Jo’s notes from a week on social dance and why we dance.

Begin with what is there as a content development Thinking about content development I realize I begin with what is already there and that I’ve been sitting with or on ideas and inspirations. I wrote a bit about this.

(¯`*•.¸,¤°´✿.。.:* Surviving *.:。.✿`°¤,¸.•*´¯) The events of our last residency triggered a ten day extreme anxiety attack (fueled by long term burnout) in me. This photo is a peek into the reality of me living in a "we have mental hospital at home" mode.

Search, search, search…. Developing an idea into material. An idea that was used a long time ago, now placed in a different time and a different setting. It is interesting how the body, through action, remembers the past — previous patterns and embodied ideas. In the video through my facial expressions you can observe how the mind is speaking up and making a dialogue with the body. Repeat, search, repeat, ow what’s going on, repeat, search, that’s isn't so bad, hmm I think I like get it, I like it, I feel it.

Light behind the light This short video captures a little moment but opens up a whole idea about lights behind lights as a concept for me as an interesting direction to research in the future.
-
Blink of an Eye I share a live composition practice that emerged from the idea of dance dramaturgy as film editing and inspired by a lecture of Guy Cools and the book of Walter Murch.
-
#screentime In this experimental composition, we were moving in the reflection of the screen-lights of our digital devices. The idea is about the materiality of online space; the light and it’s reflection on surfaces present in the real space; on our bodies.

You do not know where you are going A song of darkness over the gates of light. In the traditional stage space, without light, nothing of what is created can reach the retina of the eye. Light illuminates the fruits and the rot of the artist’s work. Sunlight, a light that does not enter the theatre box at all. Are the artist creatures of darkness….

What happened there? Dramaturgy. The connection of events in time and space. It fills the invisible with imagination. It is a designation of a set of events… What happened here? Where is dramaturgy going today? How to live in a time when the absurd becomes a narrative.
-
Dramaturgical trio The trio:
- the path of the chess match until this move
- the thinking of why this move is clever
- the constellation of the screen picture
How these three are adding up in a dramaturgical sense?

Circling mantra exercise In the Hungarian language there are certain consonant connections, which are pointing into a similar bush of meanings. In this exercise I used the pair of K+R, which is rooted in the motion and shape of circle. The inspiration came from a linguistics book, called “Bábel előtt” by Dénes Kiss.

Light Tower An element of my imagined peace: two collective members constantly guarding a position of rotating and surveilling the space back-to-back. I verbally narrate my vision while my colleagues illustrate one moment of this possible duet. The movement quality is inspired by daily contact-impro sessions we had this week led by Eszter Gál where we also spoke about attention and what it means to offer your back to one-another.

Story on light and text This is a short story summarising what felt most inspiring to me in Tier 13, connected to light and text.
